Preheat the oven to 290°F (143°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top. Lay the ribs on the rack, meat-side up.
Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs for more tender results. Pat the ribs dry with paper towels.
Generously coat the ribs with your homemade BBQ Rub, making sure to cover both sides evenly. Let them sit at room temperature for 30 minutes, or refrigerate for up to 12 hours for deeper flavor.
Bake for 3 hours, or until the ribs are tender and pull apart easily.
Spray or Baste with liquid smoke every 30 minutes.
Brush with your favorite BBQ sauce (optional). Broil for 5 minutes, or grill on medium-high heat, until the sauce is caramelized and sticky.
Rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with extra sauce and your favorite BBQ sides.
